It is a nationwide search to find the best landscape artist. Filmed at picturesque locations around the UK, contestants paint National Trust properties for a chance to win a £10,000 commission for a British institution's permanent collection. Through several rounds, winners are selected to advance to the semifinal, and then to the final. Judging the competition are British art historian Kate Bryan, independent curator Kathleen Soriano, and award-winning artist Tai-Shan Schierenberg.

Broadstairs

Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell welcome eight artists to Broadstairs beach, where they have just four hours to create an artwork that will impress the judges.

Episode 6
Inveraray Castle

Eight artists are challenged to paint the picturesque and historic Inveraray Castle on the shore of Loch Fyne in Scotland. Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell host.

Episode 7
Semi-Final: Felixstowe Docks

Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell welcome the semi-finalists to the port of Felixstowe, where they have just four hours to paint their way into next week's final.

Episode 8
Final: Greenwich Park

The three finalists have just four hours to capture the stunning landscape of Greenwich Park, before the judges crown the Landscape Artist of the Year 2018.

Episode 9
The Winning Commission

The winner of the Landscape Artist of the Year 2018 begins a special commission from the Imperial War Museum to mark the centenary of the First World War Armistice.
