Dr. Drew Pinsky uses his years of experience in the mental health and addiction treatment field to help stars face their substance use and get on the road to recovery.

In the series premiere Brigitte Nielsen, Chyna, Jeff Conaway, Daniel Baldwin, Seth Binzer, Mary Carey, Jaimee Foxworth and Jessica Sierra are introduced, as are their stories of addiction. Dr Drew begins to analyze and assess his patients' struggles through a series of one-on-one meetings, but his attention is pulled away by Jeff, who has a seizure and has to be rushed to hospital.
While some of the celeb patients are going along nicely with the program, others battle Dr. Drew and his staff. The subject of detoxing is discussed in the group meeting.
An emotionally charged group-therapy session has the patients showing some progress.
